New Jersey-based, HealthBarn Foundation, 501c3 is the charitable hand of HealthBarn USA, a proven leader in healthy-lifestyle education and family nutrition. Founder and author, Stacey Antine, MS, RDN started the Foundation in 2015 with three programs, Healing Meals, Garden-to-Table Scholarships, and School Nutrition Education.
As a health professional, Stacey Antine, MS, RDN, wants to raise the bar for the quality of food gifted to in need populations through the Healing Meals program. The Foundation is in the trenches, especially during the pandemic, with many people in our lives such as neighbors, co-workers and seniors needing help getting food on their tables. We can do better about the quality of donated foods in communities to insure everyone is fed to sustain good health. Many of these people have heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and other chronic conditions. We must improve donated foods such as expired canned goods or soups with very high sodium levels in addition to high carbohydrate foods such as pasta and tomato sauce which are generally given.
At Healing Meals, we gift nutritious food, prepared by volunteers who love chopping fresh veggies made with love! The recipes selected from Antine’s Appetite for Life cookbook include Chicken Fajitas, Chicken Enchiladas, Cheesy Lasagna Rolls and Italian-Style Lentil Soup with desserts such as Ginger Snaps and Homemade Crunchy Granola are cooked fresh and frozen for transport in family and single serve portions. The nutrition facts are provided for all recipes and adhere to government standards. The meals are distributed in Bergen and Passaic counties at local hospitals, senior residences and for families in need through social services.
Food insecurity is an immediate need that can be resolved through awareness and a giving heart. To get involved, contact us at [email protected]. To make a donation click here.
